1930 to 1960
1930 Cross-breeding experiments started by the Department of Agriculture.
1942 First Dorset-Persian co-operator R.Y. Edmeades switches to breed development followed by other co-operators. Decision to use Dorset Horn x Blackhead Persian cross for new breed.
1945 First Dorset-Persian cross for the 1946 Hopetown show organised by W.B. Ludik. First inspection card and inspection of stud Dorset- Persians. Establishment of first nucleus stud Dorset-Persians by Edmeades.
1950 Dorper Sheep Breeders' Society of S.A. founded.
1951 Inspection card and inspections finalised. First inspectors: W.D. Meyer plus one member of Executive. Exhibition of Dorpers at Agricultural Shows
1952 Second group inspectors: C.T. van Rensburg (Transvaal), L. Mostert (Cape Province), R.Y. Edmeades (Midlands), H.C. de Smidt (Hopetown) and Van der Walt (Bloemfontein).
1953 First official inspectors appointed: S.W. Bosman and H.C. de Smidt. First official approval of Dorpers at R.L. Slander, Welgevonden, Hopetown district.
1954 First information pamphlet about Dorpers: W.S. Hugo.
1955 FirstFDorper National Championship Show at Hopetown. First Dorper Club: Hopetown Dorper Club First public Dorper sale: Hopetown. First Dorper short course at Grootfontein Agricultural College: Leader S.W. Bosman.
1956 First Dorper News Letter written by S.W. Bosman and W.S. Hugo. Dorper sheep exported to Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).
1959/60 White Dorper Breeders' Association founded
1959 First National Dorper Sale at Bloemfontein
1960 First Dorper brochure: S.W. Bosman and R.L. Stander. First Veld Dorper Club: Griekwastad farmers and Extention Officer J.G.L. Meyer (official status 1964).
