CONDITIONS OF SALE

UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE SOCIETY MUST IN NO WAY BE INTERPRETED AS EITHER A SPONSORSHIP OR GUARANTEE, IN THE LEGAL SENSE OF ANY NATURE OF ANY PERSONS, WHETHER SELLER OR BUYER OF ANIMALS, OBLIGATIONS OF WHATEVER NATURE.

  1. No sale entries will be accepted unless an inspection was held within the past two years before the closing date of the sale in question. Where it is not possible to have an inspection done because of drought conditions, permission for postponement for another year can be obtained from the Council before the closing date of the sale on the recommendation of the relevant inspector.
  2. Classing for National and Club Sales begins at 09:00 the day before the sale and all animals must be in the pens fifteen minutes before classing begins.
  3. If animals are withdrawn before classing, they will be marked as culls and withdrawal of any animals after classing must be officially announced.
  4. At National Sales only Stud and First Selection animals will be offered.
  5. All animals which are offered at official sales will be classed and regarded as untagged.
  6. Animals which comply to the standards will be approved at official sales.
  7. AT National sales an unspecified number of T5 animals may be selected by five inspectors and will be marked accordingly.
  8. Only the number of animals entered may be offered for classing or for sale at sales. Any additional sheep will not be off-loaded but will be removed from the sales pens.
  9. All animals will be marked with paint, T5, stud, flock and not saleworthy before they leave the ring. All animals which are accepted for the sale must go through the sales ring and be offered for sale.
  10. Animals which are culled according to the Dorper Breed Standards, which are not saleworthy or are not saleworthy because of clinical abnormalities according to a veterinarian or inspector, will be rejected for the sale, be marked accordingly and will be removed from the sales pens.
  11. All animals which are culled or eliminated because they are not saleworthy for a sale, must be numbered and the reason for elimination given by the inspectors on a list which must be made available to anyone interested.
  12. Each seller is responsible for removing his animals from the classing ring within fifteen minutes after each group has been completed. If he neglects to do this, the animals will be removed by the officials.
  13. Rejected animals under 10 above, will not be offered at the sale.
  14. Sellers are strictly forbidden to sell such rejected sheep out of hand on the sales grounds or trade them.  Should this rule be violated, the member will be suspended.
  15. Where animals are not sold, sellers are strictly forbidden to sell them out of hand on the sales grounds or trade them without the auctioneer's permission and without paying commission and should this rule be violated, the member will be suspended.
  16. If the inspectors suspect that a cull fault has been  camouflaged, the onus will be placed on the SEller by getting him to sign a certificate under oath that no cull fault has been camouflaged.
  17. The covering of animals offered at Dorper sales must be 2 (two) centimetres or shorter.
  18. Ram lambs under the age of ten months and ewes under six months may not be sold at any sales and animals under ten months may not be approved.
  19. Inspections and approval will be free at all sales, but a sales levy is payable.
  20. Should an animal on a sale have any latent or patent faults which are  not noticed by the inspectors, the Society shall not be responsible for such inspection faults.
  21. Entry fees for National and Regional Sales will be:

  22. Rams:  R35
    Ewes:  R8
    The office must be notified of any cancellation at least 30 days before the sale.
  23. The minimum price at National Sales is at present:

  24. Rams: R800,00
    Ewes: R400,00
  25. Rams will be sold in rotation of five per breeder and ewes of 25 per round with a maximum of five lots per breeder.
  26. RIGHT TO USE: Should the right to use a ram be kept out by the seller, the seller must define this very clearly in writing with dates if applicable. This must be read out before the ram is sold and must be signed by the seller and buyer so that there can be no misunderstanding.
  27. ABSCESSES:
    1. Closed abscesses which are developing - animal must be removed.
    2. Open abscesses - animal must be removed.
    3. An abscess with or without stitches is acceptable, PROVIDED the wound is dry and uninfected.
    4. All ram flocks must be tested for Brucella.
  28. RINGWORM: If one animal has ringworm, the animal must be eliminated and must leave the grounds as soon as the ringworm is seen.

  29. A scab on a scar is not acceptable as it can still be active beneath the scab.  As soon as the whole scar shows hair growth, it is acceptable and no longer infectious. (Dr Joubert, Grootfontein)
  30. If any member does not abide by these rules he will forfeit the right to enter any animals on the corresponding sale the following year or his membership may be suspended.
